About Library
The heart of an educational institution is its library, considered the true storehouse of knowledge. It serves as a window to the world, extending the boundaries of learning and discovery. The central library is located in the main building, covering an area of nearly 3520 Sq.ft. It is well-ventilated, spacious, and features a modern reference hall accommodating 50–60 students. Separate sections are available for girl students and faculty members, along with dedicated rooms for newspapers, periodicals, and old books.

- 80% of the library functions are digitalized (remaining in progress).
- Computers installed for faster access and research support.
- Internet facility available for students and faculty.
- Collection includes 46,843 books, 11 journals, and Kannada & English newspapers, weeklies, and monthlies.

The MSB College Library, Davanagere, serves as the academic hub for students, faculty, and researchers. Established with the vision of supporting teaching, learning, and research activities, the library provides access to a rich collection of books, journals, e-resources, and reference materials across various disciplines.
The library is fully automated and provides user-friendly services to meet the information needs of students and staff.

Library Rules

📖 Library Rules & Regulations
M.S.B. Arts & Commerce College, Davanagere- 🔖 Identity Card: All students and staff must carry their valid College ID card to enter and use the library.
- 🤫 Silence: Silence must be maintained. Mobile phones must be on silent mode. Calls are not permitted inside.
- 📚 Borrowing: Students may borrow 2 books at a time for 15 days. Renewal allowed if not reserved.
- ⏳ Overdue: Books returned late will attract a fine. Please return or renew before the due date.
- 📖 Reference Section: Reference books, journals, periodicals, and rare collections are for in-library use only.
- 📝 Care of Books: Do not mark, underline, tear, or damage books. Borrowers are responsible for loss or damage.
- 💰 Lost Books: Must be replaced with the latest edition or the cost of the book must be paid with processing charges.
- 🎒 Personal Belongings: Bags and notebooks should be kept at the designated counter before entering the library.
- 💻 Digital Use: Library computers and internet facilities should be used only for academic purposes.
- 🚫 Prohibited: Eating, drinking, sleeping, and loud conversations are strictly not allowed in the library.
- 📌 Discipline: Misuse of library facilities may result in suspension of membership.
📢 Note: The Library Committee reserves the right to revise these rules from time to time.
Library Services
MSB Arts and Commerce College Library provides students and faculty with a wide range of services and resources to enhance learning, research, and academic excellence.
Open Access System
The Open Access system allows users direct access to books, encouraging exploration and familiarity with diverse information sources.
Circulation of Books
Users can borrow books for 15 days using their ID/borrower card. Reference books and periodicals are generally not issued, except faculty overnight references.
Books Display & New Arrivals
Newly acquired books, special occasion books, and works by Kuvempu, national poets, freedom fighters, and scientists are displayed. Selected titles are showcased in ‘New Arrivals’ racks for at least one week before circulation.
Special Occasions
Books on special occasions such as Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanthi are specially displayed.
Inter-Library Loan
Books not available in the library can be obtained from AVK, A.R.G., and D.R.M. College libraries. INFLIBNET’s database is used to locate required resources.
Newspaper Clipping Service
Daily news items relevant to higher education are scanned, converted into PDFs, and shared with students, faculty, and staff via email.
Reference & Ready Reference
Professional staff help users locate information using dictionaries, encyclopedias, yearbooks, in-house and external resources. Lists of books on specific subjects are provided on demand.
Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)
Users can access the library’s databases of books, dissertations, and other collections online. Training is provided to students at the start of each academic year.
Workshops, Training & E-Resources
The library conducts orientation for freshers, e-resources awareness sessions under INFLIBNET N-LIST, and hands-on training for effective usage of electronic journals and books.
Best Library User Award
Based on automated usage tracking (VISLIB), one exemplary user is selected annually and awarded a book as recognition.
Suggestion Box & Career Notifications
User suggestions are reviewed weekly, and career-related notifications are displayed via WhatsApp, notice boards, and library blog.
Book Exhibitions
Physical & virtual book exhibitions with leading publishers help users review, recommend, and select books, promoting reading habits and strengthening library collections.
Reader Assistance & Facilities
Support for locating books, digital resources, spacious reading halls, separate reference sections, digital library access, audio books for visually challenged students, and free online books for the blind.
Other Services
Spacious reading hall, reference sections, digital information centre, book bank, Wi-Fi, newsletters, indexing, selective dissemination, competitive exam cell, workshops, e-mail/WhatsApp notifications, and digital library use.
