Department of Sociology
M.S.B Arts & Commerce College, Davanagere
Department Profile
Sociology is a young and dynamic science, first defined by August Comte in 1839. Later thinkers like Herbert Spencer, Emile Durkheim, and Max Weber applied sociological approaches to interpret key social phenomena.
In India, scholars such as Brajendranatha Seal, A.R. Wadia, Patrick Giddies, R.K. Mukherji, Iravathi Karve, D.P. Mukherji, and D.N. Majumdar shaped the discipline in the early 20th century.
Established in 1983, the Department of Sociology at M.S.B College nurtures students to become socially conscious, morally upright, and emotionally balanced individuals. Under the leadership of Dr. Raghavendra R., the department actively engages in both curricular and co-curricular excellence.
