Maganur Sarvamangalamma Basappa Arts and Commerce College is the constituent of Bapuji Educational Association which is one of the leading educational institutions in Davangere. The college was started in 1969 as an evening college with a generous donation contributed by Sri Maganur Basappa, a business magnet of the city, in memory of his better-half Smt.Sarvamangalamma, to impart education for the employed section of the society. In 1983, the college was converted into a day college to cater to the educational needs of the students from all walks of life in and around Davangere. The college offers B.A., and B.Com. degree courses. The College has undergone four cycles of NAAC and is accredited with ‘B+’ grade in the third and fourth cycle. The rural illiterate, downtrodden, SC and ST students have the opportunity to get education on par with the urban youth and the college provides a forum for their mutual understanding also – the urban youth try to understand the innocence of the rural youth and the rural youth try to understand the aspirations of the urban youth.
During the post accreditation periods as per the guidelines of the UGC and NAAC the IQAC has been constituted for the better and effective functioning of the institution. Further, as per the NAAC directions, master plan with several committees fhave been formed to implement the criteria wise recommendations through IQACfor better academic performance. As a result, many reformative measures have been taken.
During the past 15-20 years, several new private / Government colleges have been functioning in Davangere to provide Arts, Commerce and Management Education to the public. In spite of it, the college has maintained its legacy without any compromise in its academic standards.
The college has achieved a gradual and remarkable performance in the examination compared to that of the result of the other colleges. What best could be done to accomplish the vision and mission objectives of the college and for the satisfaction of the stakeholders the institution has been doing its best within its limitations and capacities.
