              M.S.B college is established in 1969 as an evening college and later it took its shape as the day college in the year 1983 with various departments. Kannada department is one among them. In the beginning Sri.VasudevaRao and Smt.N.C.Basamma were the faculty members. Their services to the college are worth praising. Sri K.B. Papaiah entered into the department as a lecturer in Kannada in the place of Sri. VasudevaRao.

          Dr. M.G. Eswarappa a popular Kannada professor, writer and artist joined the department and became the Principal of our esteemed college. Prof.K.B.Papaiah H.O.D of Kannada department has rendered good service to the department. After his retirement, the department was run by incharge of the Kannada departmentSmt. Shantala.P.H. and Smt. Shaila.N.Shettiwho were guest faculties till 2020. 

          In July 2020 Prof. Basappa .A.D who became the principal and took charge of the Kannada department and run with the aid of the guest faculties. In September 2021 new appointments were made Prof. M. Manjappa is appointed as the new Assistant Professor of Kannada in 2021 and now he is incharge of the Kannada Department.Prof. Basappa .A.D retired from service in May 2022.         

June 2022 Dr. M.Manjappa is now heading the department with the aid of one guest faculty.

The departmental curriculum has undergone a significant change during the past years.The semester system has been introduced to enable the students to score better marks.The teaching methodology has been shifted from the conventional lecture method to the student oriented method. Students have been encouraged to participate in seminars and are given assignments on different topics. This has tremendously influenced the student community and they actively participate in the learning process.

          The faculty members are encouraged to participate in different academic activities for the overall growth of the department and students. There exists a good amicable relationship between the student and the faculty members. The students meet and consult the faculties.

           The faculty members have published articles and participated in National level cultural programmes, various camps, training and National level seminars. Five books have been published from our department.

          The department has conducted Special lecture programmes on various topics. The department has designed its perspective plan for the future years.

Department Staff :

The  department does not possess a separate departmental library. But the college library has 4330 books in kannada department.Pertaining to different forms and fields of literature. Various Kannada magazines are being subscribed so as to aid the students in their study and future programmes. Competitive exams in magazines and newspapers. The students can spend their leisure hours fruitfully going through the reading room and enrich their knowledge in the current affairs.
