About NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government-sponsored public service program launched in Gandhiji’s Centenary year in 1969. It aims to develop students’ personality through community service and encourages youth participation in nation-building activities. NSS operates as a voluntary association across Colleges, Universities, and +2 institutions, fostering a spirit of compassion and responsibility.

  • Develop social and civic responsibility
  • Utilise knowledge in practical problem-solving
  • Build leadership and teamwork skills
  • Encourage democratic and group-living attitudes
  • Gain competence in mobilising community participation

Coverage

Started with 40,000 volunteers in 37 universities, NSS now has over 3.8 million volunteers across 396 Universities and Polytechnics. NSS volunteers are recognized nationwide for their selfless contribution to community service.

Motto

“Not Me but You” — reflecting democratic living and selfless service. It emphasizes empathy, collective welfare, and the spirit of community engagement.

NSS Logo

The logo is inspired by the Rath Wheel of the Konark Sun Temple, symbolizing the cycle of creation and preservation. Red and Blue stand for energy and dedication to the service of the nation.

NSS Badge

The badge carries eight bars representing 24 hours of the day — symbolizing constant alertness. Red denotes the vitality of youth, while Navy Blue represents the vast cosmos and the global outlook of NSS volunteers.

College NSS Units

Our college has two active NSS units — one each for boys and girls. These units conduct regular outreach and extension activities focusing on cleanliness drives, health awareness, blood donation camps, rural literacy, and environmental conservation.

Motto:

The Motto of NSS “Not Me but You” reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service. NSS helps the student’s development & appreciation to other person’s point of view and also show consideration towards other living beings. The philosophy of the NSS is a good doctrine in this motto, which underlines on the belief that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of the society as a whole and therefore, the NSS volunteers shall strive for the well-being of the society.

 

NSS Logo:

The logo for the NSS has been based on the giant Rath Wheel of the world famous Konark Sun Temple (The Black Pagoda) situated in Orissa, India. The Red & Blue colours contained in the logo motivate the NSS Volunteers to be active & energetic for the nation-building social activities. The wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation and release and signifies the movement in life across time and space, the wheel thus stands for continuity as well as change and implies the continuous striving of NSS for social change.

 

NSS Badge:

The NSS logo is embossed on the badge of NSS. The eight bars in the wheel of NSS logo represent the 24 hours of a day. The red colour indicates that the volunteer is full of young blood that is lively, active, energetic and full of high spirit. The navy blue colour indicates the cosmos of which the NSS is tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.
